Tom glad to see you are here it is a great place and the people here make it that way. I just got back so I can tell you what everyone has been telling you an alcoholic can never drink in moderation. Just drinking one evening made me want it the next day as if I never stopped which left me with the choice do I not drink and be miserable or do I drink and let it control me again. I spent two months of feeling miserable some days and under its control the others until I grew tired of feeling miserable and let it control me everyday for almost a month. Today is day four and it is as difficult as day four after drinking many years straight.
Way to go on you decision, rest assured it is the right one. I hope you stay in touch and keep us posted. Be strong anything worth obtaining often requires work. Oh and don't think of it as never getting to drink again that's too negative think of it as never having to be controlled by alcohol again. Good luck buddy.
