Speaker backed out at last minute

On the bright side of things, I celebrate 1 year tomorrow night. 2 I had a speaker lined up nearly a month ago. He calls me this evening (I'm out of town) and tells me he can't make it. The wife's mother died, got to go out of town, family first and all that...

Too late to line somebody else up tonight. So I got to round somebody up with something less than a day's notice...it ain't right.

You reckon this is why they tell you not to think you have "control" over things?

I ran it by the wife, she seems to think its gonna work out. Hope so. I'll make some calls tomorrow, surely somebody will step up for me.

Congratulations on your year!

That's more important than who speaks.
You can always do it yourself
that is the custom in some groups

Do check back and let us know ..k?

P38, I've been cornered at a meeting five minutes before the meeting started and asked to pinch hit. Most folks who speak from the heart aren't going to need long to prepare.

Besides, if you're celebrating a year, why don't you do it? (Congrats, btw!)

Peace & Love,
Sugah

I did consider that option; but for now, have decided to decline. We'll see what happens then. Thanks for the congrats!

"Speaker backed out at last minute"

oh, now I can tell I am really tired. When I first read that title. I thought it read

..."Speaker blacked out at last minute"...

I was, needless to say, quite intrigued to read all about that.

Okay. Back on topic, I'd have to say 2 things:

First: Major Congratulations on your anniversary!

and, 2: There must be a reason for things to have turned out the way they have and I'm sure it'll be for the best.

Let us know, okay?

Tx. I wanted ya'll to know I've prayed over it and given your suggestions and encouragement I've decided I will speak tonight. I'll have you know this is in no way how and when I expected I tell my story, but I guess it never is.

Thumbs up Speaker on your one year anniversary....

Hi, 3

Your HP might be working in mysterious ways. A BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you. 2

We usually did our AA Birthdays all at once for the whole month and gave the birthday people the opportunity to be the main speaker. It worked out well.

One year birthdays are special...it is the hardest year for most. It is a major life change to learn how to live sober. I still don't like to go fishing anymore because my main enjoyment was drinking beer.

Have fun at your Birthday meeting. It is a good feeling...big smile night. :day4

Y'all aren't gonna believe this, but they apparently sufficiently enjoyed my story last month they asked me to tell it again at another group I attend.

God does work in mysterious ways...

Hi....
We had a major crash at SR
so some of the replies
on this thread were lost.

Also some members lost their Profile
post counts. I notice you did too.
Sorry.

Good to see you again!

Ya know I see this happening a lot. People backing out of their commitments at the last minute. I find people let them off the hook way too easily. There excuses are usually that they are just too tried, overworked, ect.......They are not emergencies. These bums should of never agreed to speak if they weren't going to see it through.

Congrats, P38!

(and as for the nick, I thought it referred to a can opener -- the kind my dad insisted I learn to use & carry w/me at all times, for some reason...)

Peace & Love,

Congrats on a year P38 and it sounds as though speaking from your heart was a hit!

Tiburon I had a speaker stand me up, of course it was the very first speaker I was supposed to get, heck the guy even came up to me and volunteered! I learned an important lesson that night, I learned to call the speaker I had lined up the night before they were supposed to speak because usually we line up a speaker a month in advance and people do forget. The next speaker I lined up I made sure I had his phone number and called him the night before, he showed up and gave a great talk, I need to try and remember to call the speaker tonight that I have lined up for tomorrow night just to remind him.
