Alcohol will crush that ego eventually..by circumstance alone. If you are in a hopeless situation, you will reach out. I don't get the impression that Paulos is ready to quit drinking, maybe he wants to, but there is a subtle yet crucial difference between wanting and being ready.

Just my opinion.

To be doomed to an alcoholic death or to live on a spiritual basis are not always easy alternatives to face.
There are a ton of us that have faced that choice and are living today because we chose to live.

Religion is for those folks who are are afraid to go to hell,

Spirituality is for those folks who have been to HELL... We alcoholics know all about suffering...

Paulos, you don't need to believe in a higher power, just keep trying...
