Okay what do you see as the proper sobriety date for some one?
I am just wondering because I am presently using my first day without a drink as my sobriety date.

I have always used the date of my last drink. As always it is MY sobriety date, everyone else should use whatever makes sense to them. I choose to use this for a few reasons, but they all make sense to me.
I found that "that last drink date" reminds me HOW IT WAS, and for that reason I like that date. Every year as my "birthday" comes around I sit quietly and remember what it WAS like. I do find that with a few exceptions I don't think anyone pays attention to my sobriety date but me

As the time sober gets longer the actual date matters less. Not just in concept, but in actual mathematics. If I am off by one day then I am in error by .000342%.
If I hadn't stopped drinking I would be off by about 90 proof, and 100%!!
Just another random thought.

Tib if I counted the date of my first AA meeting as my sobriety date I would be a huge liar, I would have about 5 years of your type of sobriety, I was drunk as a skunk at that meeting, it was my first and last meeting for quite a few years.
Tib if I used your method of counting sobriety from the time of my first AA meeting should I pick up a 5 year chip or be a bigger liar yet and pick up a 10 year chip? A lie is a lie so why not make it a whopper!!!!
I voted for the day after your last drink; however, when I got sober 20 years ago, I chose the last day I drank. I'm not sure it makes that much difference if we maintain CONTINUOUS sobriety ... Just my opinion ... Good poll ...

Taz, if "my sobriety" helps me why criticize? I only have to be honest with myself. I have 5 years of recovery and can look in the mirror and be proud. "My sobriety" is obviously something you have a problem with, o well...
I have wondered the same thing, but not down to the day. It has more to do with the month. For example, if I was to quit the 15th of the September I wouldn't get my 30 day chip the last meeting of that month(whenever B-Day night is) since I had only 2 weeks sobriety. The following September I would get a 1 year chip at the end of the month even though I only had 11 months and 2 weeks.
It's no wonder we drank having to deal with this kind of stuff.
