One Year Back
One Year Back
Good morning, today marks one year back since my relapse last year. There have been a few interruptions to my sanity, no interruptions to my sobriety. It's been the best year of my life.
Good deal Stobert, congrats on a year sober!!!!
How long were you sober before you relapsed? What led to the relapse?
I have just over a year sober without a relapse (So far) and part of the reason I have not relapsed is thanks to people like you who are honest about relapsing sharing the truth.

Congrats on your 1 year. I'm coming up soon to a year after my relapse, funny, I've never thought of it as a relapse, well, used that word till now. I know what you mean about the interruptions to the sanity.
I had two years and 7 months before I took a drink, then went another couple of months, drank again, went on like that until late September 2006 when I drank for a few days straight and fell back into old patterns. It didn't take long before I was lying and paranoid. The worst of it were the terrible pangs of dishonesty, I finally picked up the phone and spilled the truth to my sponsor and a couple of AA friends, went to a meeting and picked up a white chip. The rest is history, got back on track and here I am.
Thanks for sharing Stobert, we had a gal came back in last night, it was heart breaking to see her...... she had 16 months sober, she shared that she just quit going to meetings, calling folks in the program, working the steps with her sponsor, she said every day she did not do what she should have been doing was one day closer to a drink, when she broke down and picked up she said she was having a mental battle..... meeting..... drink..... meeting drink? She bought a pint to start with. Went straight into a binge/blackout mode...... totaled her car when she T-bones someone (No one except her was hurt). She was in the hospital for 3 days and then discharged herself against doctors advice and came to a meeting.
She was looking healthy with a climmer in her eye and a smile on her face before she went out..... she looked like hell last night!!! This was all in less then a month!!!
I gave her a big hug after the meeting and my number if she needed a ride to a meeting. I also thanked her for sharing her relapse with the group. She said she had to share it, she loves us and wanted folks to learn from her mistake. I let her know I loved her also and admired her for telling the truth. She said she had to tell the truth or she would never stay sober by lying.
