Day six and hurting but hanging in there

Hi to all,

I am on day 6. I was a moderate drinker. I am having a lot of anxiety problems and having a hard time sleeping. But I am hanging in there. After all the research I have done over the past few months on alcohol and its effects I can honestly say that I will never drink again. Alcohol and Pot were part of my life for the past 20 years. But I have pot free for over 5 months now. These past 6 days have been the hardest in my life. Being a musician that performs in night clubs every weekend were alcohol is rampant has made it hard. But after seeing how people act when they are drunk and I am sober only strenghtens my resolve. I found this forum via a ask search and I am so glad that I have. All the stories I read have been wonder for me. It has made me see that I am not alone in this fight. Thank you all.

Hi Obi,

You are not alone!

The anxiety will likely clear up, if it is caused by the alcohol. And, the sleeping patterns will probably take awhile to get to a normal state. Hang in there!

I don't envy you working in clubs, but you can get through this!

Welcome !!!!

I am having a lot of anxiety problems and having a hard time sleeping
That's normal. It's kind of a mini-withdraw. Be thankful you didn't have full on de-tox and withdraw/DTs like a lot of us had. It aint fun.

I'd suggest some sort of recovery program. I use AA myself. I tried doing it myself, but it never worked. Also, "white-knuckling" it aint much fun. I made it 5 years once, but I was miserable.

Welcome Obi.

Congrats on getting off pot and alcohol. It gets easier with time. You are doing the right thing by quitting. I hope you can find some comfort by posting and sharing here.

Welcome to SR obikenobi, as long as we do not drink or use we do get better with every passing day.

Yes you are not alone, we are every where.

As Glassprisoner mentioned, recovery programs for some folks are essential to not only staying sober, but being happy & sober.

Keep an open mind, set aside prejudices and be honest with your self and those around you. You may find your self really struggling and miserable trying to stay sober or you may wind up drinking again, what ever happens keep searching for what you need for long term happy sobriety.

I would suggest to check out different recovery programs, see which one appeals to you and try it, if you find your self still struggling then check out another program until you find one that works for you.

I use AA to not only stay sober, but to be happily sober.

One thing I will throw out there is that no program out there will work for anyone if they do not work the program.

Stick with it, it does get better, there will be times it will be damn hard, but with the help and support of others the hard times will pass.
