Was gone but I'm back
Was gone but I'm back
Hey everyone,
Here's the Reader's Digest version: Came to sobriety in early July. Attended meetings without telling my husband. Had 2 great weeks... until I told him. Upon which he told me he never thought I was an alcoholic... i.e., although he'd mentioned my drinking being a problem in the past, he still wanted me to be able to drink when he thought it was appropriate ( I know, WTF?).
So- I immediately took a nose dive off the wagon and spent a month experimenting with his theory. Nope. As suspected, that didn't work so well.
So- as of today I have 24 hours sober. Already this feels like "the way"... there's another blog forum I participate in and with their help, and a meeting later today, I will make it 2 days.
It's good to be back. Had the best sleep of my life last night.

Thanks for sharing Sunrise, It's good to have you back!
They even say in the big book, if you're not convinced, try some more "controlled" drinking.
I'm just glad that you made it back, not everyone does.

Ah, Sunrise1, welcome back. Hope you stay this time, but if not, it's always "Welcome back". A good friend who has struggled and been in and out, told me when he was gasping for 24hours of sobriety, how he felt he had let everyone down and what a piece of s*** he felt like. It was like I could feel exactly how awful he felt. I reminded him of the stories we had heard together in the rooms, from the mouths of people who had been in and out for many years before finally "getting it", and now had legendary runs of sobriety in AA. "Oh, yeah, that's true, they did. Just cuz you struggle and slip doesn't mean you're not going to make it in the end like they did."
I'm relating this not because you've expressed the same kind of anguish, but because I really wanted to post it for the lurkers who might benefit from it.
Blessings from the Snowgoose.

Welcome back sunrise, one of the things I love about SR and AA is you can leave and stay as long as you can and then come back and no one will say they told you so, they will say what I am going to say. Welcome, we are glad to have you!
Sunrise by your post I can tell you have learned an important lesson.... only you can determine whether or not you are an alcoholic.
