This disease kills

I just wanted to put this out there. I meantioned it in another post, but I thought I'd dedicate a thread to it. We had a 20 something year old man that was coming to our group over the past couple of months. He was down here living with a relative and trying to get clean and sober. like most of us when we get here, he had a mess to clean up in his life, but I guess it was more than he could handle. About a week and a half ago he took off without warning. He was found dead yesterday of a drug overdose. He had apparently been dead for the past 5 days. I know I've seen this disease take a number of lives over the years, and it never ceases to stun me. Anyhow, just a healthy reminder. I know I've got another drunk in me, I don't know if I'd make it back. The last time out gave all indications that I wouldn't, that the odds are seriously against me making it back to AA. So, I'd best keep my ass in the chair every day. I don't want to die so that someone else can have it.

thanks BP -

it is a fatal disease ... treatable ... but fatal.

Makes you think, though - 20 something years old.

*prayers*

Rest in peace.
A sober reminder.

I used alcohol as an anesthetic: it made pain go away. But most of us know about the progression of alcoholism, and how we slide down the slippery slope. There is a point when the alcohol itself begins to make us depressed, and what's dangerous about that is that it is hard to recognize, so we take more in an effort to feel better.

This certainly can create suicidal thoughts and medical professionals can address the issue better than I can. Perhaps this situation was a factor in whatever happened to the young man of your acquaintance... just thought I'd put this in print cuz you never know who it might help. Certainly in helping other, I help myself. That's the program at work!

Blessings from the Snowgoose.
