and yes thats me singing and NO im not a singer LOL,as ya can hear.I see so much of me in my kids its scarey.Ill just keep talking truth with them and hope for the best.18 year old off to college next month and I have caught him and his buddies drinking before, but my reminder to him is "Look at me"!!! I think he knows,I hope he knows!
Homer my mind stayed in the drunk stage every time I would stop drinking for years which always led to me drinking again, I finally went from being a dry drunk to sober once I got out of detox and got into AA.
Homer I had to admit I could not do it my way, I had to be beaten down into submission by alcohol to the point where I knew I was going to die if I did not stop.
My only failure in life has been being unable to quit drinking my way!
My BIGGEST VICTORY in life was admitting defeat by alcohol doing it my way, this allowed me to get with the program of AA and become a winner!
Want to quit throwing up & start growing up? I wanted to and I was able to do it via AA.

I am glad to see you on the site, and alive and breathing! I took some time off from SR, but trying to come back in here and offer up my experience strength and hope...
Your quote above -- I know EXACTLY what you mean! We call it a 'dry drunk,' when you still feel sh*tty and have the same thinking as you did when drinking, only no way to escape it. Eventually the real alcoholic will listen to the inside voice that says "this way of thinking and living really sucks, and one beer won't hurt..." then we take the first drink, get the sense of ease and comfort we crave (because of our mental obsession) and then we set off an actual physical craving for more and more alcohol....
That's why when folks go into a detox unit, they don't come out "recovered." (look at Lindsay Lohan -- 2 weeks out in the real world and back at it)....
My recovery must be physical, mental and spiritual. I found that's the only way that works for me... AA promised me that when I straightened out spiritually, I will straighten out physically and mentally as well....
I have had probably the worst year of my life this year -- deaths in the family, major family issues and disputes, work stress, etc.... But the key thing for me, and the thing I am most grateful for -- I DIDN'T HAVE TO DRINK OVER ANY OF IT...
Not sure why I wanted to write that, just wanted you to know that although life still throws amazing amounts of curve balls at us, we don't NEED to have that crappy way of thinking and living we did as practicing (or unrecovered) alcoholics...
BTW -- I thought you were a New England guy -- WTF is up with that Yankees hat????? I am a New Yorker originally, but grew up a Yankee hater....
Hope you are doing well, my friend -- PM me or email if you ever need to talk....
No Mo
