Hello all. I made it through the weekend. I have not drank in 8 days! I bought a book over the weekend called the "Easy way to stop Drinking". The book is great. The premise behind it is to make a person realize that alcohol does nothing for us positive at all. I tend to think I'm happier, funnier, better looking, etc when I drink. The first 200 pages are dedicated to making one realize that none of that is true, in fact just the opposite.
Just taking it one day at a time. I will not drink today!

Congrats on day 8 jdp, how did the AA meeting go?
BTW just my opinion, but for this old drunk there was no "Easy way to stop drinking." I tried it all before I was finally to the point of having to drink every day, I let my way lead me to detox and then AA, if I had of wised up earlier and realized after 10 years of my way was not going to work and gone to AA I may have been able to skip the detox and the last years of sheer hell.

10 days without drinking poison!
Thanks everyone. Today is the tenth day without a drink. I am starting to have some issues falling asleep. The past two days have been tough to fall asleep. I fell very tired in the morning when I wake up. I feel good once I get going, but right when I wake up I'm tired. It makes me wonder how in the hell I was able to stay out until 3am and wake up and go to work (sometimes I couldn't make it).
The nicest part about not being a drunk, is making an appointment for 9am and not dreading it all night the night before. I made three early morning appts. and I have no doubt I will make them all. When I was drinking I would have called the people later this evening (drunk) and pushed them off until the afternoon. God, I was such a freaking loser.... I really feel embarresed of who I became.
I love deciding what I am going to do instead of letting the booze decide for me!

you are so cool
i used to think that, too
if only i had come in sooner
alas, that is the paradox
if we had come in a year, a month,a minute earlier, a second, even
would we have been absolutely ready to recieve the gift
might we have gone back out
only never to find AA again
i was born in 1950
i grew up on this block
and there was a norwegian seaman's church at the corner of the next block
a grand structure, now, albeit, condo's
less than 500 feet away
so
when i came in
i went to the brooklyn group
aa's second oldest group
and met tom k.
who recently celebrated 51 years
well, i ran across an old reprint of a new york meeting list at one of the groups
in the 50's, a group used to meet at the norwegian seaman's church
so i kidded with tom k'
he probably walked down my block from the train to go to the meeting there
and
if i "had met" him
i could have joined AA at about 6, 7 years old
he did remember going to the group
as there were only about a dozen meetings in new york city at the time
lol

Today is day 17!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not one drink in 16 full days.... thanks everyone. I DID GO TO AN AA MEETING.... It was very good. I enjoyed it. My wife actually went with me for support. It was cool.
Excellent jdp, my wife goes to some open AA meetings with me, she loves to feel and hear the spirituality, Experience, Strength and Hope.
Good job on the 17 days, grab your self a sponsor and get on the steps, working them made all the difference in my life sober.
