Ah yes.....the cycle of unchecked alcoholism is
so obvious in your post winterwar
.
I'm sorry it's happening to you....it did happen to me too.
Depression is why I started AA recovery...
I got off the misery go round ...so can you.

The Salvation Army has free de tox facilties in many areas.
I strongly suggest you see what is available in Birmingham.
Be safe thru the 3-4 days of initial withdrawing.

Yes! you too can find your way out of alcholic hell.

Welcome to our recovery community

I'm 35 days sober. (would average 10 beers day + 2g weed)
3-6 beers a day is actually pretty low if ur an addict.

Cutting down can work pretty well. I cut down to 3-4 beers + 0.5g weed for like 4days, from march 20th to march 24th, then on march 25th i went completely sober and stayed like that.

Its good for the mind to cut down and prepare urself for complete dedication. Going right away cold turkey might make u relapse and 'miss' ur addction. Cutting down for a few days and then going cold turkey makes the process a lot more smoother in my opinion. (just dont stay too long on the cutting down part max should be a week).

For me I had to medically detox and quit cold turkey. Hope you find a way to not be drinking at all, good luck!

Looks like I am rarity. I could quit by tapering off. Lots of will power, drinking only when absolutely necessary. Lots of water, b vitamins.
Good luck
Although as others have said going to doctor clinic is a better option.
Do you feel your shyness and introversion has anything to do with the reason you have developed a drink problem?
The reason I ask was because my shyness was the reason I developed a drink problem.

After my last binge-drinking episode, I tried tapering myself (as I had so many times before) and ended up in the hospital with a BP of 174/135. I use to be an advocate of tapering, but now I know how dangerous it is.

I'm not a doctor. But I'm a recovering person from alcohol. My tapering was by being in jail. Gave me time to think/feel. I like being free. When undoing lies, OOh man, it sure hurts sometimes. But it works, I gave it time.

Does anyone here have any experience in TAPERING off alcohol, to lessen the withdrawals? I work full-time and I was just in too rotten a mood (irritable, tired, messed-up feelings) by the 2nd day of my cold turkey. I felt in my heart that tapering might be what I need.

Tonight I have the equivalent of 4 beers and thats it (to drink). Should I drink 4 again tomorrow, then 3.... then 3..... 2....2...... 1..... 1.... none.....? Im not sure how to go about this other than trial and error but I would love some advice and suggestions if anyone can help. Thanks!

Peace,

This was my problem.... And I just stopped. The thing is tapering off is not telling yourself not to drink... its saying drink less but things happen and 2 becomes 3.....

I can't think of anything worse than sitting in AA so that thought alone helped me stop

As stated in the forum - Stop for a year and re-assess. We are not all the same.

Good luck
