I have friends, and I also had drinking buddies that I considered my friends.
When I quit drinking, it became obvious which group people belonged in.
Friends are happy to go out for lunch or coffee, or some other venue where alcohol is not expected.

hey oof, i just wanted to throw down my opinion as well. i'm 22, will be 23 in a month and a half, and i know exactly where you're coming from. i didn't stop seeing my old friends out of fear, or people in AA telling me i had to. i stopped seeing them because a lot of them stopped seeing me as well. i knew i couldn't hang around bars while i was brand new (i still don't, unless there's music, 'cause what's the point?) because i'd want to get drunk and why not? so i didn't go to bars, and i found out quickfast that some of my friends were really just drinking buddies. some of them were true, including my very best pal who i still love dearly. they were the ones who would make it a point to hang with me while i was sober, and stay sober themselves.

when i moved to charlotte, all i did was go to AA. i didn't know a soul here, so it makes sense that all my friends here are from the rooms. my boyfriend, my heterolifemate, my sponsor family, all people i love that i found in AA. so i don't know, i think you'll find out that if you really want sobriety, and are willing to go to any lengths to stay sober, the Big Guy in the Sky (or whatever, wherever) will work in ways you can't imagine, and you'll see what's up. don't stress about it, just don't drink. y'feel me?
