Well. I did it!!!
Well. I did it!!!
In AA they say you should have at least a year under your belt before making a big decision, (I have a little over 13 months). Last night as I was making dinner, I placed some potato wedges on a cookie sheet that spelled out, "Will you marry me?"
I was slicing the Round Eye cut of beef I just took out of the oven and asked her to put the potato wedges in the oven for me. She walked over, opened the oven door, grabbed the cookie sheet, and was about to put it in the oven. I said to her, "Hey, look at the fries!" She looked down at them bewildered at first, then realized what was spelled out, and started laughing/crying.
I could of been a little more "romantic" about it, but you have to understand that we have been together for almost 5 years, lived together for 4 years, and have a child together. Plus I'm taking her out to dinner somewhere nice this coming Saturday to celebrate. We picked up her engagement ring together, so the surprise factor wasn't there anyway.
Thanks to AA, and the support from you all to give me a life I can live, and where I can see all the people, events, and things in my life I can be grateful for. She is a good woman, a fantastic mother, and was there for me every step of the way during my active alcoholism, and continues to support me every day.
She actually took a picture of the potato wedges...lol.

Well Tom did she say yes? LOL!!!!!!
Tom congrats, when they do the ceremony the can leave out the "worse" in the "For better of for worse" part, she like my wife has lived through the worst of me!!!
AA is a God send, it has taught so many, myself included to live life on lifes terms sober and happy!!!!

Oh yeah, I guess I forgot to mention that in the original post. She did in fact say yes. I would of been a tad surprised if she didn't. She already has a stack of wedding magazines two feet high! Plus a "Ideas" binder she making for the wedding, which is planned for 08/09/08. We would of picked 08/08/08, but that's on a Friday, and it makes more obvious sense to have it on Saturday.
It will be a small but fun wedding. If we have a best man, and a brides maid, I'm gonna ask my sponsor to be my best man. He's a father figure to me, and a good friend.
As long as I keep doing what I'm doing, and taking it a day at a time, I should be able make it to the wedding day without a problem, God willing.

Hi Tom,
New here but just wanted to congratulate you on your 'little over' 13 months and also your great news. Well done & all the best for the future, on both counts.
Although for the record:
I think it was a fantastically romantic gesture, sometimes it's the littlest things you know.
