My first AA meeting
My first AA meeting
Eight days on the wagon and today I had my first ever AA meeting. To be honest it was pretty much as I'd expected it to be, maybe a little less formal than I'd imagined. I know I'm going to disappoint some people but unfortunately the meeting took place in a western style room and we didn't sit on the floor.
I listened carefully to what people had to say and quickly looked over the literature I was given but really it was just an opportunity for me to break the ice, meet some people and talk about drinking, alcoholism and being sober.
For me the most productive part was afterwards when we went to the coffee place down the road. This gave me a chance to talk in a more relaxed environment. We didn't really get onto the 12 steps thing, I think it's a bit early for all of that right now.
I actually do feel better now, knowing there are people I can talk to who know what I'm going through helps.

I went to a large "Founders Day " meeting a couple of weeks back, apprehensive as I don't like large social situations. To my surprise, I knew matye 30-40 people. Lot's of hugs and hand shakes that night.....
