Day 1
Hi :0)
I am on day one and wanted to say thanks for the community here, the posts I've read have been very useful.
Also I want to post a thread so I can get support from others as I go through this process if that's ok?
This morning was difficult, dt's and a definate numbing of my brain power, I've come to expect that now. I'm not shaking as much now it's early evening, just need to avoid taking a drink.
Ok, this takes will power, lol. I gave up drinking for two years not too long ago, so I know I can do it.

Thanks for the replies and info everyone :0)
I saw my GP yesterday and he prescribed thiamin and multi vits. He also did a full blood and liver workup and I should get the results back on Monday. Hopefully I'm all ok. If I need to go to hospital I'll get myself there. Thank you for your concern :0)

WELCOME. HOPEFULLY, you'll find a home group and go to AA for the support and to work a program because I know that it "works if you work it" This is fantastic that you are making changes!

Thanks again everyone, Day 2 - I can do it again today. :0)
I'm not sure about getting to AA, not that I have anything against ppl that do use AA of course. There's a couple of fundemental issues I disagree with which I need to get sorted. I've got the 12 steps and 12 traditions book, found it in a charity shop last week.
I will probably check them out as I can't make a decision unless I've given it a go. I do know I need some local support.
Coming here yesterday was a great move though, I've been reading on and off for a while now. This does seem to be an extremely supportive and caring environment. Thank you all :0)

Welcome !!!!!
It's nice to hear someone actually want to investigate AA before dismissing it. I'd suggest more than one meeting. Try 30 or so before you make a decision.
AA is the only thing I found that worked for me. And I tried a lot of other things. You can "white knucle" it, but it's a miserable exsistance. All of the fear, anger, depression etc asre still there, only you're not drinking. AA helps you cope with life, to roll with the changes.
Good Luck an God Bless.

Thanks for your response - open mindedness can be a good thing eh :0)
I'm expecting a courier delivery this morning and if it comes I can go to a local AA meeting at 10.30. I'm also going to check out a local drinking and alcohol service to see if they have any meetings. More progress and it's just at the beginning of the week.

Hmm, no not really to be honest but I can see why you might make that conclusion. My downfall comes because I tend to drink to deal with life's circumstances, it's my default coping mechanism, I'm aware of that and need to change that in order to succeed this time around. The last time I started drinking again it was because of my son's father being diagnosed with a fatal illness that caused his death and then my mother died. I didn't white knuckle it until those circumstances arose.
