You CAN Overcome Alcohol Addiction

Stan: Dad, you don't have to do this! You have the power. You haven't drank since seeing the statue.
Randy: But the statue wasn't a miracle!
Stan: Yeah. The statue wasn't a miracle, Dad. So that means you did it. That means you didn't have a drink for five days all on your own.
Randy: You're right, Stan. If God didn't make me stop drinking then... I did. Maybe... Maybe I can force myself to never drink again.
Stan: No!
Randy: No??
Stan: Dad, you like to drink. So have a drink once in a while. Have two. If you devote your whole life to completely avoiding something you like, then that thing still controls your life and you've never learned any discipline at all.
Randy: But, maybe... I'm just the kind of person who needs to have it all or nothing.
Stan: Naw. All or nothing is easy. But learning to drink a little bit, responsibly, that's discipline. Discipline... comes from within.

So, who's first to give it a try, sure won't be me, I just lack in that special sort of "discipline".

Randy: Learning to drink sure sounds complicated.
Stan: Of course it's not compicated you've been drinking liquids your entire life Dad!
Randy: Yeah, but other liquids don't affect me like beer.
Stan: Well that is where discipline comes in.
Randy: Not drinking at the beginning was difficult and required a great deal of discipline, but now that I've found a solution, it's a non-issue.
Stan: But you like to drink beer Dad.
Randy: Actually, I used to like to drink beer, now I can take it or leave it, so I prefer to leave it.
Stan: Wow Dad, you're an inspiration - I hope I can have the same "willpower" you do when I grow up.

This program is brought to you by the letter F, the number 4, and Spinach - the vegetable.

Seamen who sailed near were decoyed with the Sirens' enchanting music to shipwreck on the rocky coast, and the Sirens devoured them.

carpe diem. latin " live for the day or sieze the day".

May I remind you that this forum is for those who want to QUIT drinking.

Moderation may be the dubious transactions of other forums but we don't do that here.

Recovery South Park Style

I love South Park, that episode was great. However, when it comes to my program of recovery I prefer the Big Book over a poorly animated 4th grade cartoon character. Whatever works for you............

One important point of that episode was that Stan's father was not an alcoholic. It appears the original poster missed that part of the episode.

I hear of people quitting on their own or drastically cutting down. I see people in the program that remain dry but haven't worked the steps.

Those people aren't like me. Tried all that already.

Ahh, the new first step....we proclaimed we were powerful over alcohol and our lives became more manageable!!!! Why didn't I think of that? All it takes is moderation. And to think I was going to do all this work on ego deflation.....silly me

Assuming that all this is not a dialogue from your drama / screenplay you're testing here, this last statement, quoted above, is sort of delusional lecture. In fact it is very dangerous for all of us drunks that would give anything just bo be able to "drink a little bit".

We cannot! And DISCIPLINE is in NOT taking that drink.

Delusion is trying to find that "discipline" in "drinking a little bit". If you want to screw an alcoholic, teach him / her such "discipline" and then carefully observe the results of a full blown, often fatal relapse.

I'll be the first one to say I love South Park!! It's been one of my favorite shows for years. But taking recovery advice from the show is like using the Daily Show as your primary source for news. It's satire people!!!!
