I'm back.

I haven't been around very much recently. I was gone for the last week, drove down to California and had a fun little vacation. For some reason even before that I stopped checking in here as much as I used to. But I'm back and ready to help and be helped again.

I almost had a drink while I was in San Diego. We went out for dinner and I was looking through the menu. I got to the page with the alcoholic drinks and got that feeling/urge that I know so well. But I turned the page real quick before I could even look at what they had. Just for that little thing I was pretty proud of myself, which seems a little silly. Then something weird happened a few days later. I woke up in the middle of the night after having a dream about drinking. I've never had a dream like that before so it shocked me when I woke up. I know that's normal, but it just caught be completely off guard. It seemed like it came out of nowhere. It does make a little sense though now that I think about it. My counselor said that at 2 weeks, a month, 6 months, a year things like that happen. It's been a month today, so I guess it's right on schedule.

I'm doing pretty well and just thought I'd check in. How is everybody else doing?

Yeah, ended up driving 2,400 miles or something. Drove down to San Diego, then up to Anaheim and spent a couple days hanging out at Disney Land and California Adventure. It was pretty awesome.

That's not silly at all! The urges strike when you least expect it,... and you handled it very good! Keep working it RedFox!

Congratulations on your sober time, and I'm glad you didn't have that drink.

Good job on staying sober Red, glad to see you back and doing well. Sounds like you had a great trip. I have had a few drinking dreams myself, really weird some times.

San Diego is a beautiful city. I usually plan a meeting when I am visiting a place on business or vacation. That tends to provide immunity from the first drink.

I do have pictures to share actually. Far too many to post on here. But I do have a website on flickr.
Please PM me for the link.

Potography is a huge hobby of mine, it actually helps me with alcoholism. It keeps my mind busy, always looking at things in different ways.

Carol - That was exactly what she was talking about. I couldn't remember what it was called, but that's it. Thanks for the link.

And thanks to all you guy who responded. I hope you're all doing well.

Welcome back RedFox.

Good job turning the page on the menu. These are the sorts of situations we find ourselves in, and each time is a victory. I look at my sobriety as a miracle. Sometimes I have drinking dreams too. Often, they are nightmares. Just reading your post gave me a dejavu.... it gave me the shivers.

Drinking dreams are great reminders of why it's good to be sober. In mine, the dream always ends badly. This is great because when my mind wants to go there... I'm reminded about what it's really like. I get the re-enforcement my brain needs, without any real consequence.

Anyway, I'm glad you stayed sober. Congrats on your sober time.

Hiya Red!!!
Good job on turning that page and staying sober. Hey you drove right past my house to get down there & back. (if you took I-5 anyway). Once we took the coastal route all the way down there, it was a pretty drive. I'll go check out your pics!!!

My PE teacher from way back in kindergarten through 3rd grade started calling me red. Then of course others called me that. Gee I wonder why? lol.

Yep, I took I-5 all the way down. Even on there it was a pretty drive through a lot of it. I loved going through the Siskiyou Mountains.

Thanks for the link Carol. I'll go post a picture or two on there.
