Alcoholism And The Elderly

I am putting myself out there for anyone who is older and has questions or concerns about alcohol. I feel there are people out there with concerns. I hate it when questions go unanswered because of fear or anything that gets in the way of asking.

This is difficult for me. You see I want to help the seniors out there. To make a difference in there life. I thought what better way than to start this thread. I want people of all ages and backrounds to find a place to feel comfortable talking about themself or loved ones I worry that I don't reach out enough to others. So here I am hoping that if you have any concerns about recovery you will ask me or anyone else on here. You see that is how it works.

Thanks for reading this and feel free to ask away.

Funny you should mention the elderly alcoholic, 1 month ago this past Sunday there was an older gentleman who had been coming to this one meeting I have been going to ever since I got sober, he always comes in with one of those walkers with wheels on it.

Well I thought he was a real, real old timer until then, when Big T was passing out chips his son helped him stand up and when Big T called "One Month" he walked over, gave the man his chip and a hug! You could have knocked me over with a feather, this continued every time Big T announced another month all the way through 5, chip and hug.

Well this past Sunday besides Big T picking up 25 years, when Big T called 6 months the man using his walker went up to the podium to get his 6 month chip! Big T gave him a hug and whispered something in his ear and the older gentleman looked at Big T and nodded yes, at that point Big T announced his first name and that he was 86 years old!!!

Just goes to show you it is NEVER to late and no matter how long one has drank that one can still improve their health, mind, and thier life by sobering up!

BTW I am 53 does that qualify me as an old man?
