Wink Conversations with myself

This conversation has been going on in my brain.

TOM = The old me
Talluleh = After “Monday morning” me

TOM: You know I’ve been thinking about all this. I think it’s great what we’ve done so far but do you really think you need to go further? I mean you aced last weekend with barely a problem. I wonder if this means we don’t have a ‘problem’.
Talluleh: oh?
TOM: There have been lots of times when you didn’t drink before, <insert examples> or stopped before it got out of hand.
Talluleh: Yes, there were
TOM: So do we really have to never ever ever drink again? I mean EVER! I could see it if we were like the ones that couldn’t go a day without but we’re just weekend drinkers.
Talluleh: Blackouts are middle stage alcoholism. How much fun was waking up after a blackout? That was grand wasn’t it? How about the embarrassment of what you said the night before and we’ve been getting pretty nasty with our comments after we’ve had a ‘few’ lately.
TOM: Yes BUT what if you just have one or two?
Talluleh: When was the last time that we had ‘just one or two’?
TOM: Wait, lemme think.. it’ll come to me..
Talluleh: Let’s not worry about ‘never ever’, let’s think about today
TOM: Today, of course won’t drink today, that’s easy.. yes for sure not today.. but the weekend is
Talluleh: the weekend is 3 days away; let’s just think about today
TOM: NEVER EVER!
Talluleh: TODAY!!! Now shut up, go away and let me get some work done.

Talluleh I love it!!!

I call it the committee meeting in my head, the committee seems to meet far less often in my head now and when they do meet it is but a fleeting thought, the committe basically sits down and then adjourns first thing!

Get out of my head!

I have SOOO had that conversation with TOM!

TOM is weak in the final analysis.

Glad you are joining me (and others) in staying sober today. Tomorrow ain't here yet and TOM can damned well sit and wait for it!

Nice post, Talluleh

Talking Thanks!

Good to see TOM doesn't just visit my brain. I was beginning to wonder if I'm turning 42 on my next birthday, TOM makes me feel more like I'm turning 14.

Talluleh I have heard and in many ways beleive that alcoholics quit maturing in social skills for the duration of their drinking careers, I am thankful I was a very mature 12 year old!!! LOL

Hey talluleh'
I to have a Tom & he says pretty much the same to me as he does to you.But I just remind him of the times he left me so deep in the sh1t that I didn't know which way to turn or the times when he told me that nothing else realy matters exept getting drunk. Then I ask him, if I did just have that one drink would things be different this time round. Of cause he says they will be, but i've trusted that little sh1t before and I know he lies to me.
So like you Talluleh i'm not gonna listen to him, just for today !

Stay strong and safe

chris

Whoa!!!!! I'm I blown away. This is one of the most eloquent description of what goes through the mind of an alcoholic I've ever read. I love your last line, strong, determined, and no nonsense. Will you be MY sponsor? :

Blown away every day,
Ed

Well Talluleh, I must confess that I had about the same conversation in my head a couple of times the last 2 days. Pretty funny how your own mind can play tricks on you huh?

Who knows,... I've red some conversations on this forum where they said some of us are not "the real thing" (Real alkies that is). But in the end that doesn't really matter I guess. I'll just play it safe and quit drinking anyway. It can never hurt huh?

Wink

Okay, it seems that some of us are in a really good place today. How about a few joke?

Top 15 Women's T-Shirts

1. Next mood swing: 6 minutes.

2. I hate everybody, and you're next.

3. And your point is...?

4. I used to be schizophrenic, but we're OK now.

5. I'm busy. You're ugly. Have a nice day.

6. Warning: I have an attitude and I know how to use it!

7. Remember my name -- you'll be screaming it later.

8. Don't worry. It'll only seem kinkys the first time...

9. Of course I don't look busy... I did it right the first time.

10. Why do people with closed minds always open their mouths?

11. I'm multitalented: I can talk and **** you off at the same time.

12. Do NOT start with me. You will NOT win.

13. You have the right to remain silence, so please SHUT UP.

14. All stressed out and no one to choke.

15. If we are what we eat, I'm fast, cheap and easy

Flight delays

Fifteen minutes into the flight from New York to Phoenix, the captain announced,
"Ladies and gentlemen, one of our engines has failed. There is nothing to worry about.
Our flight will take an hour longer than scheduled, but we still have three engines left."

Thirty minutes later the captain announced, "One more engine has failed and the flight
will take an additional two hours. But don't worry...we can fly just fine on two engines."

An hour later the captain announced, "One more engine has failed and our arrival will be
delayed another hour. But don't worry... we still have one engine left."

Sherry, a young blonde passenger turned to the man in the next seat and sighed, .......
"If we lose one more engine, we'll be up here all day!"

What does that tell you?

Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson went on a camping trip. After a good
meal and a bottle of wine they were exhausted and went to sleep.

Some hours later, Holmes awoke and nudged his faithful friend.
"Watson, look up at the sky and tell me what you see." Watson
replied, "I see millions and millions of stars."

"What does that tell you?"

Watson pondered for a minute. "Astronomically, it tells
me that there are millions of galaxies and potentially
billions of planets.

Astrologically, I observe that Saturn is in Leo. Time wise, I
deduce that the time is approximately a quarter past three.
Theologically, I can see that The lord is all powerful and
that we are small and insignificant. Meteorologically, I suspect
that we will have, a beautiful day tomorrow.
What does it tell you?"

Holmes was silent for a minute, then spoke. "Watson, you idiot,
Some ******* has stolen our tent."

Talluleh, that is brilliant! You've captured exactly how it is for me too. If you don't mind. I'd like to paste it into Word and add a little design behind it, so that I can read it again & again to remind me, if that's alright with you. I have a little private folder now where I stick inspirational stuff and your post sure does it for me!

Taz, I loved the "the committe basically sits down and then adjourns first thing!" I am still giggling! I always love your comments!!!

Rainey, wow, I'm so glad I said something that means something to you. I almost didn't post this because I felt pretty silly about it. Wow, it's so good to know I'm not alone. Congrats on your progress!! You inspired me, you are one of the reasons I'm still here.

Ed, #13 is definitely for TOM!! Thanks for the jokes.

Hiya Hush, you know if someone wants to say that some people here are not 'real alkies' who cares. We both know the problems alcohol caused in our lives, we both know the damage it did, we both know exactly how we felt when we found this place and we are both are feeling better today. That says it all for me.

How do you squash the 'voice'?

Hi Talluleh I have the conversations in my head too, maybe we all do. I guess it just gets less over time, seeing it for what it is robs it of most of it's power and you have done that already!
