Hi John,
Glad you've decided to come here for support. I've learned a lot here but I've also learned to "take what I need, and leave the rest."
It's really not morbid curiousity, but I think it helps us feel connected to other members when we know a little of their history and what brought them here. Care to share?

Paulos do not quit trying, the more you try the better your chances are.
I will share this, I found that as long as I kept trying to quit the same way every time I got the same results, I could not quit!
I kept trying different things to quit or moderate my drinking and kept trying the same things over and over again with the same reults, I could stay sober for a few days and always wound up drinking/drunk again.
Like you the whole 10 years I was trying to quit I made a commitment that I would never go to AA, they were a bunch of sorry old sad drunks who could not do it on their own and sat around in rooms drinking coffee and talking about how miserable they were.
Well when I finally was beaten down to a pulp and knew that I could not stop my way I finally went to AA, it saved my life and it gave me a real life with happiness and purpose.
I discovered that what I thought AA was, was the furthest thing from the truth, we are the happiest most giving group of people I have ever known.
Paulos at least try other support groups, there is no substitute for face to face help.

Hi Leroysdad,
Welcome and congrats on 3 days!
Some are able to just say no, and god bless them.
I needed more support from people who had been through this mess themselves.
Have met many wonderful folks, both here and locally in person.
Just a bit over 90 days for me now and things in my life are improving every day.
If you have trouble not-drinking forever, just shoot for midnight.
Keeping it about this day helps me.
Take care, and again, Welcome
Ted
