A bit of help along the way
Hi,
This is my first post here and I'm hoping to find a bit of advice and support on the the road to not drinking any more.
I've been trying to control the levels of my drinking but almost every night I give in and it's beginning to ware me out both mentally and physically. I'm so committed to continue my life without the negative effects of alcohol, and I hope a bit of support here from people who have have travelled the road already will prove to be valuable in resolving this inner struggle.
It seems that I start thinking about a drink between 8-10pm so I'm going to get a plan together to fill this time slot every night and tonighht is looking like either the gym or cinema.
If I can do today it will be a really good start. I'll let you know how I get on and if I feel the urge to drink I'll come back here and hopefully find that bit of extra motivation to get past this thing.

You'll find your own ways to stay sober, but remember that it's not what time you drink or the amount you drink, it's the mental obsession that makes someone an alcoholic.
I wasn't a morning drinker, I started at 4:00 PM every day and continued until I went to bed. When I took the first sip I was on a fast track to getting drunk, and even if I stopped for a couple hours the obsession compelled me to pick up again to finish the job.
If filling up your time slot doesn't work, I hope you'll consider AA or another recovery program. Sobriety really is worth it.

well,
a counselor mentione that a long time ago
you got to get out of the habit of drinking
so
change your structure
and
what you describe is, basically,
people, places, and things
you are home,
sitting on a couch,
watching tv,
the clock is ticking,
no one is calling you
no big plans for tomorrow
"oh, i'll call mom tomorrow"
there is nothing good playing at the movie
"i'll write checks to pay bills next week"
"man, oh, man life is so boring"
bingo
get off the couch
grab a jacket
rush out the door
yada, yada, yada
"this bud's for you"
hey, try AA
it'll give you a new structure at the very least
best
