Wonder where to start?
Hi,
Looks like I have a problem. Stopped once before but started back "moderatly". The moderatly led to binges that I am ashamed of. Do the cravings go away, and if so how long does it take once you stop?
Thanks

If you're like me, you have to stay away from that first drink.
6 weeks after de-tox, I had 2 airline size bottles of Vodka. Went to bed, woke up, felt fine. Worked so well that a couple of days later I bought 3. The next day, I got some at lunch, and a few more that night. You see the pattern here ?
A couple of weeks later I was drinking a 5th a day. I ended up getting arrested at my daughters school for public intoxication. I blew a .26. After I was released, I went to an AA meeting.
It's been 88 days since I last drank.

Welcome Learningabit
You've come to the right place if you want to learn more about alcoholism.
For me, I had to replace my drinking with something else. Today, I put at least as much effort in recovery as I put into my drinking. This keeps me sober, and keeps me free from cravings. AA really changed my life, and taught me how to live sober.
I hope you find answers that work for you.

Glad to see you here..Welcome!
In early recovery . I timed my cravings.
Mine were 5/7 minutes in duration.
I can overcome most things for that short time!
I took action during that space.
Brushing my teeth...eating a Lifesaver...drinking water
(notice the oral connection?)
The longer I stayed sober they lessened
in both frequency and intensity.
Keep in touch..

The cravings are likely individual to each person. For me they went in stages... still get "urges" once in a while a year or so later, but they are no longer the "I gotta drink", now it's like "well, a drink, hmmm... oh wait, no bad idea".
