Lest we forget

I like to constanly remind myself of the evils of alcohol.
I read this early in my quit, so sad, it motivated me to sobriety and I sometimes re read it when I feel down.
I hope it motivates you.

I am more powerful than the combined armies of the world;

I have destroyed more men than all the wars of the all the nations;

I have caused millions of accidents and wrecked more homes than all the floods, tornadoes and hurricanes put together;

I am the worlds' slickest thief.

I steal billions of dollars each year;

I find my victims among the rich and poor alike,

I am relentless, insidious, unpredictable;

I bring sickness, poverty and death;

I give nothing and take all;

I am your worst enemy;

I am alcohol.

RIP Raheem Bath.

"I give nothing and take all"

I am beginning to comprehend even more the insidious nature of alcohol as I watch the tentacles of another's disease reach from very far away and do harm to me.

done2 as an alcoholic I can testify that alcoholism is not a disease of just the alcoholic, it is a disease that destroys families and friends as well....... I did not see or know this until I sobered up.

There is nothing I can do to change my past, but as I was told by my son this past Christmas that I had given the whole family the best Christmas present I had ever given them.............. my sobriety! I get choked up every time I remember that. What I will do one day at a time for myself, my wife, kids and grandchildren is stay sober and continue to work the steps.
