I realize that alcohol does not discriminate but it seems like there are more men drinkers than woman. I AM NOT discriminating But alot of the time on here it is mostly male people and I feel super alone a lot of the time. Am I the only lonely one who needs to know that her female companions are also alcoholics?

I didn't mean you were discriminating...
If you go to the women in recovery forum there are many women there. Many more women it seems post there than men do in the men's room forum...
Have a nice evening...

Greeneyes you are most definitely NOT alone. Another female here. I have a fairly large homegroup and I'd say we are pretty evenly distributed. This disease is an equal opportunity disease, doesn't care what sex you are, how old or what background you come from.
Anywho, hope you feel better knowing you have other females in here with you.
Hugs,
Kellye

I don't know what the stats say, I think that there are more women with drinking problems they just don't drink in public as much as the men.
Maybe we are just better at thinking we are hidding it.

I'm another woman, here, Greeneyes!! I have never noticed fewer women than men -- I find that an interesting observation on your part.
There is a Mom's thread going, full of women and as someone mentioned, if you feel comfortable among women only, there is a women in recovery thread.
This whole place is awesome, frankly, and I appreciate all posts by everyone, male or female.

Hey green--I'm a girl too. Sometimes I think it's almost harder because most people have the perception that guys are the drinkers and that not too many girls have that problem. I'm at my lowest point right now and pretty much scared to fall any farther downhill that it's helping me look up. Finally, my husband and I are getting along better, but I screwed up at work and wouldn't know what to do with myself if I lost my job and my friends because of a dang beer. I've been sporadic on here, and one of my starting points is going to be to visit here daily and use SR as a log for myself instead of just reading all the time and wallowing in my own sorrows :-) So you'll see a lot more of me I'm sure!!!

Hi jdgualazzi - glad to see you posting. I know it took me a little while to get comfortable with posting, mostly out of my own fear of not having anything worthwhile to say - and because I just couldn't keep it together...I kept slipping up and drinking, and I felt like I didn't have a right to post anything, because obviously I couldn't help myself...so how could I help others.
But then I started posting, and I realized that posting helps me stay sober. It helps me get my thoughts out of my head, and it helps me to quit focusing on myself and instead focus on someone else - which also helps me stay sober.
So welcome! Hope to hear more from you...oh, and I'm also a female...and what's amusing about being a female alcoholic is that you'd think something would have clicked with me when I was always hanging with the guys because none of the girls like to drink as much as me...changing scenery...just delayed the realization!!

I'm female It's never mattered to me though who's posting....I welcomed advice from anyone, male or female! I also digested many, many posts not even thinking about what gender the poster was. We're all here for each other and that's what matters!
