Why Thank the Speaker
Does anyone else think it's right and good to thank a speaker after they share their experience, strength and hope? I always stand in the receiving line to do so because I was taught its "what we do" but I get a lot of flak from my friends who say its not necessary and only serves to feed a speakers ego. Thoughts?

I agree Sugarbear.I been doing it a long time and I will continue to do it.
The speakers ego?I don`t think that will build the speakers ego.I would find a better class of friends or educate them

Good question. It depends. No matter your opinion, it's not practical at some speaker meetings with large groups and/or anniversaries etc. I also notice that wherever I've been, no matter what, a female speaker will be SRO and every woman there will wait to talk to her after the meeting. Just makes sense to me as a guy not to disrupt that.
If the speaker is a home group member or friend of mine, I'll stick around for a while and say thanks once everyone else has.

sometimes, those speakers are scared to death to get up in front of a crowd to tell their story when they are fairly new.I remember how scared I used to be.
It always me feel better when it was over, and some folks told me thanks! To me that was showing the AA love and support for another
