Writing the Big Book

I'm reading "Writing the Big Book: The Creation of A.A." by William H. Schaberg

William has compiled an immense collection of AA articles and artifacts and has tried to put the story together.....

A bit controversial since history is often a lot of perceptions and opinions and not always facts....

I am finding the reading quite interesting and I am pleased to know my sponsor has had a good grounding in AA history....as well as a good understanding of drunks.....

A good read!!

Wow, that sounds fascinating.
Thanks for telling us about it. I'm gonna run over to my favorite online bookstore right now!

I find AA history fascinating. My two personal favorites are "Not God" and "The book that started it all".

Thanks for the book tip. I'm not familiar with this one sugarbear. I'm going to add it to my reading list because I happen to know that you're no slouch when it comes AA history.

It's new. almost 800 pages. Online ebook is much cheaper. The author compiled a lot of information. Many pages are devoted to references, and I find it to be a bit repetitive. I have to read more.....

Got it today; didn't realize what a monster it was going to be. I'm very excited! If nothing else, it will be an impressive coffee table book to impress all of my AA friends when they come calling, lol.

Is the author your sponsor, sugarbear?

O

Wonder how much is mentioned about the serious falling out Hank Parkhurst had with Bill Wilson over Ruth Hock. She was a secretary for AA and Wilson’s assistant in writing the BB.
According the Susan Cheevers author of “My Name is Bill” Hank hoped to marry Ruth after his divorced finalized and when she declined Hank blamed Bill.

Hank P went back to drinking not long after this.

Might pick up the book but in kindle form. This would make searches easier.

May I also suggest...

May I also suggest the book,' My name is Bill' by SusanCheever, herself a recovering alcoholic, which covers the formation and creation of AA and is well researched and written for those interested.

Yes, I found it a very good book which portrayed B.W. as a flawed man and the beginning of AA.
