Yeah, the Florida Shuffle. As long as you have insurance or deep pockets the doors are always open.

Alas I had neither when I got sober. It was AA. Take it or leave it.

I took it.

One AA member I know spend a year in an alcohol rehab center in Northern California. (God only knows how much that cost.) Unfortunately he returned to drinking two years after leaving rehab. Don't know what happened after that.

That article, if true, made for very sad reading, CaiHong. But thank you for posting What concerned me, is the tender ages of those people, they’re just youngsters, with their lives ahead of them, being failed by this system that seems to have developed, placing money before lives. Sigh.

Hi CaiHong,

Thanks for sharing. I know you live Down Under as we’ve shared emails in the past.

This is a tragedy but it’s nothing new.. The opioid epidemic in the USA peaked around 2005-2008.

Here’s a good article that explains exactly what happened and the new epidemic, Heroin!

How Florida ignited the heroin epidemic: A Palm Beach Post investigation

https://heroin.palmbeachpost.com/

Also there’s a show in the US about two recovering addicts from Florida that try to help, mainly young people that moved to Florida to enter a rehab only to find themselves homeless living in addiction. Extremely RAW, Sad but it’s really driven a lot of awareness regarding the current epidemic.

Thanks Dave for those links, there is a lot of information to absorb. I may have mentioned that I am doing an online course on Alcohol and Other Drugs, this will qualify me to work as a support worker. These kind of articles are very useful for the course that I am doing and for my own personal interest and for that I thank you.
cheers
CaiHong
