Got a sponsee in trouble.

This is one I haven't come across before.

I'm not a lawyer and can't advise her but am still interested in knowing the legal aspects of this if anyone knows. We already know traditions have been broken.

Seems my sponsee sent an email to another AA member's friends and relatives in anger telling them what their friend/relative did to her. Sponsee also disclosed that this person she was exposing is an AA member.

We're working on the resentment.

But sponsee is now worried about legal ramifications among other things...

Over the years I've read about this sort of thing but not specific to this exactly, and for my own knowledge, has anyone ever been sued or worse for something like this?

^ "Has anyone been sued"... That sounds like fear to me.

I would start with handling the resentment and amends. Taking responsibility for repercussions becomes an issue as and when there are repercussions.

Worrying about what said repercussions might be, or protecting against them...Wouldn't seem in the spirit of the program to me.

I have her sponsorship covered, Paul, not to worry....

I imagine it depends on ramifications (e.g., did letter cause someone to get fired?) but to my knowledge anonymity is a spiritual concept, not a legal one. Your sponsee is lucky to have you!

Thank you NYC and good points.

of course its happened. maybe not a member of AA, but here in the U.S. people sue for anything.

might want to have your sponsee look up libel and slander if your sponsee is concerned about the consequences.

As far as I know, truth is a defence against libel and slander.

This is what I was thinking too. Interesting.
Thank you all for your responses too.
