Big Book, 12-Step, Back-to-Basics Seminars? Has anyone attended one of these? Let me explain. I've been listening to a seminar recording of Paul Fisher (recommended by an SR member). He did a 4x 1 hour seminar that took newcomers through the Steps completely in those 4 hours. He relies solely on the Big Book and contends that in the 1940's newcomers were often taken through the Steps this way. Sponsors were provided at the seminar. I'm finding the seminar very interesting, and I've learned quite a bit about Steps 1, 2, 3 & 4 (I haven't listened to the remaining recordings on Steps 5 thru 12). I'm interested in looking into this type of seminar; although, I don't know if I'll attend. Do these still take place? Can anyone recommend some resources for locating a schedule of this type of seminar (it doesn't have to be Fisher's seminar)? I've Googled a few terms, but I'm not coming up with much. To be clear, I'm interested in live seminars that takes newcomers entirely through the steps in a short period of time. Thanks |

Also call your local intergroup office (AA office) as some of the Back to Basics meetings are held but not promoted on a website. |

yes,I have attended 25-30 or so They are ok,and I have had some great experiences there.I wouldn`t count on them to bring about a deep, peaceful, lasting sobriety after my experience with them. some inter groups will not support the back to the basics because they don`t see them as AA A friend and myself used to hold them.We probably did 25-30 here in NC.We also called them 12 step workshops. The back to the basics was patterned after early AA beginners meetings. There seems to be a misconception today that they are the program but in reality, they are just a replica of old time beginners meetings held by some AA`S,not all of early AA. |
