Big Book Quote for 7/10/13

"If we were to live, we had to be free of anger. The grouch and the
brainstorm were not for us. They may be the dubious luxury of normal
men, but for alcoholics these things are poison."

~Alcoholics Anonymous, How It Works, pg. 66~

That's insane, I was just writing a 12 Step Letter to an old friend who has lost everything because of his anger and hasn't quite made the connection between that and his drinking.

I used that exact quote in the letter to response to something he wrote: ""Anger is a part of everyday life. As much as, if not hopefully a little less than all of the other emotions" .

Getting goose bumps. I'm reading the BB third time in a row this year and amazed how the meaning and power of the words change every time.

Anthony De Mello says that a person that is angry is really afraid.

He said, "Think of a person that's really angry...they are really frightened."

I felt anger so much in my life, and grew up surrounded in fear. I believe this shaped me.

I believe my fear led me to anger, which led me to dependence on something for relief.

Could anyone further elaborate on the meaning of "brainstorm" in the AA context.

I think I suffer more from brainstorms than anger. I often go into these "Walter Mitty" states of consciousness, less now that I am sober.
