Question for sponsors
 

I have a friend A who has been in and out of AA for many years and he just never seems to "get it." I don't think that he has ever made it passed 90 days. I also think that he has had the same sponsor each time and I wonder sometimes what his sponsor must think after so many tries and so many failures.

Has anyone who has been a sponsor had a similar experience? What do you do about someone like this. Do you respond the same way on the 10th try as you did on the first? Do you ever just shake your head and stop trying?

Although I try not to *give up*, there are times I need to, to take care of myself. Someone can be a chronic relapser, relapse maybe 100 times...then he/she may surpise us all and stay sober on the 101st. The BB does say, though,*do not be discouraged if your prospect does not respond at once. Search out another alcoholic and try again* (top of page 96)
