Big Book Quote for 1/24/2013

*~*~*~*~*^ BigBookQuote^*~*~*~*~*
"Yes, there is a substitute and it is vastly more than that. It is a
fellowship in Alcoholics Anonymous. There you will find release from
care, boredom and worry. Your imagination will be fired. Life will
mean something at last. The most satisfactory years of your
existence lie ahead. Thus we find the fellowship, and so will you."

Release from boredom, care, or worry! Isn't that what I was looking for with drugs and booze?

pre- and post-meeting chats, coffee dates, phone calls, meeting sponsees, meeting sponsor, service work, helping others, welcoming newcomers, being on SR...this is the kind companionship that I sought while drinking. My communion with God and the camaraderie of my fellow alcoholics is what fills that void which alcohol failed in doing so. For a borderline recluse like myself, the fellowship is something that I both feared and relished at first, and now has become a comforting and reviving thing for me. I know I am amongst those who know me, know the struggles and can turn my world around for the day with just a few words or an act. And in return I can do the same. It's a beautiful thing to be a part of, and I can't imagine not being around my fellow alcoholics.

If you're bored...you're doin' it wrong

Or as Mooji says, "How could all this shedding of delusion simply finish off in a state of boredom?"

100% agree! My life is full of hope now. All the hope I had when drinking was just enough to fight for something that worked to make me stop drinking and live a different life. I knew I would die if I kept up the life I was living. Thank God that he spoke to me and led me through the doors of AA and asked me to work the AA program just as hard as I worked on my drinking activity. I could not do it on my own and AA worked for me. I have not only been sober but HAPPY and at peace sober.

If you are bored scrub the floors or more nicely put volunteer :)
