discussion topics for AA meeting Hello all. Can anyone point me to a good (long) list of discussion topics for AA meetings? I'm especially interested in topics for beginner meetings. I've found the material on the AA website as well as at the Grapevine. I guess I'm being lazy and am hoping someone has a really good list of topics they would be willing to post here or email me. Maybe we could just create the list here? Off the top of my head, here's what I come up with: Honesty Hope Trust/faith Responsibility Asking for help Acceptance Gratitude Home group Getting a sponsor Working the Steps Change Spirituality Our liquor was but a symptom |
Higher Power Patience Humility Making amends Surrender Defeat Fear Restless, irritable and discontent Sick and tired of being sick and tired A new freedom and a new happiness Happy, joyous and free Defects of character Right sizing Love and tolerance Good will toward all Life on life’s terms One day at a time |
Powerless over alcohol Unable to stop drinking on the basis of self-knowledge Listening Power greater than you Defiance Reliance Mentally ill A faith that works The care of God God as we understand Him Egotism Self-centeredness Suffering |
Controlled drinking Resentments Self-pity Serenity Courage to change |
Had to drop the word "blame" from our speech and thought Self-will run riot Anger Exact nature of our wrongs Admitting one's defects Willingness Entirely ready |
I've thrown these out and got nothing but blank faces... :( Discuss your direct experience with: the 4th Dimension Being Reborn We don't do many "pick a topic" meetings 'round here. Just about every table is literature based - heh......the comments aren't necessarily but it's a start ;) The WORST tables I've ever been to have had these topics: who's got a problem to discuss? and my personal least-favorite: Relationships (lol... here's a table of ppl who are powerless and can't manage their own lives but they're looking to give advice to someone on how to run their relationship-- that one kills me) |
Justification Humility as a way of life Good intentions Spiritual values Honest, tolerance and true love Self-sufficiency Retreat into alcoholism Peace of mind Hitting bottom Peace, partnership and brotherhood Willing to make amends Pride Emotional hangover |
Quick-tempered criticism and furious, power-driven argument Radical change in our outlook Courtesy, kindness, justice, and love "Not my will, but Thine, be done" Honest regret for harms done The blessings we have received |
Prayer Seeking guidance Self-examination Forgiveness Constructive imagination Perseverance Quit fighting Spiritual bankruptcy Into action Helping others Carrying the message Grandiosity Sincere desire to stop drinking Fatal and incurable illness Alcohol as a poison Return to drinking Unmanageable Compulsive drinking |
Calm in the face of disturbance Patience, humility and peace Stream of goodness in the world Love, joy and happiness Making a better world Constant effort Healing Hungry, angry, lonely, tired |
Elimination of self-centeredness Honest, pure, unselfish and loving Would you like to be right or happy? "I came for my drinking and stayed for my thinking." "Sobriety is its own reward." "The first drink gets you drunk. " Keep an open mind." "Where ever you go, there you are!" Living in the present "Expectations are resentments waiting to happen." "It's ok to look back just don't stare" Powerless but not helpless My best thinking got me here Living in the solution |
I like The Jaywalker story, but it's literature based (BB). |
Gosh...:) Looks like you have found many already Good to know you are chairing meetings. For Beginners meetings....many groups I know have voted to rotate...Steps 1-2 and 3 Then back to Step 1. |
Topics I would have liked How to drink like a cool dude. How to drink and hide it without her having a sixth sense. How to drink and remember it. How not to make a weekend last 7 days One of the best newcomer meeting I've been to recently was experiences of powerless with a drink and powerless without. Sounds like you got a good list going there buddy. Steps 1.2.3.is what I see most here in uk. |
