AA Thoughts For The Day--Restraint -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~*~A.A. Thoughts For The Day~*~ ^*^*^*^*^ Restraint ^*^*^*^*^ "Our first objective will be the development of self-restraint. This carries a top priority rating. When we speak or act hastily or rashly, the ability to be fair-minded and tolerant evaporates on the spot. One unkind tirade or one willful snap judgment can ruin or relation with another person for a whole day, or maybe a whole year. Nothing pays off like restraint of tongue and pen." c. 1952AAWS, Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, p. 91 ^*^*^*^*^ Thought to Consider . . . The tongue must be heavy indeed, because so few people can hold it. *~*~*AARONYMS*~*~* H A L T = Honestly, Actively, Lovingly, Tolerant |
I just bet they would have included recovery sites too. Ya think? |
:agree For me holding my tongue can be one of the hardest things to do....there are times it is bloody from biting it :c032:. But a key for me is when those times hit :a043:, I remind myself that the other person is also a person with emotions, feelings, and has their own devils they fight. This helps me to take a breathe and step my emotions away from the situation long enough to avoid saying something I will most likely regret at some point. It has been really useful here to at times reply to a post in a word document and sit on it for a day, that allows me time to cool down and 90% of the time I either edit the post or do not post it at all as I can realize that it comes across in a negative, non-productive way. Thank you Carol for the constant reminders and thought provokers you post. |
