convention people Hi everyone, Im heading to the Galway all Ireland "Keep it simple" convention in the morning. Not a big convention goer, but maybe once a year. I was wondering do many here travel to many of them. Would you like to share about some of them?? There are a few of us travelling together. We will catch a good few meetings and chat for hours over coffee. I love meeting people I have not see in a while. |
I'm reallly tickled you are going.....Enjoy! Due to my vision ....I no longer attend them but Yes! I have been to many. The largest was International 2000 . I think there were 65,000 attendees. I flew up and met with cyber friends :).....We did more fellowshipping than serious AA For serious AA...Step workshop/retreats worked best for me. |
thanks Carol, Four of us travelling together and meeting some more there. Looking forward to it. Some members from my home group went to that International 2000 too. Brought back some memorabilia |
Love em'..love love love em. |
I have never attended one but heard so many great things, I definitely want to attend one. Have a great time Nel |
I stopped going years ago. They seem more like a marketing opportunity to me now. Used to love Sessions by the sea until all the AA merchants started showing up |
As it turns out it was a great convention and none of that marketing stuff you referred to Steve, thank God. Just A.A literature and a room full of archives to look through. A lot of great meetings. plenty of fellowship. Good few Americans and English had travelled over. Met loads of people I have not seen in ages all in all I'm glad I went. would not go to a lot of them as a rule. but I think I will make an effort to get the all Ireland once a year. next year Kerry. |
hello nelco,im fairly new back in AA (begining of the year) i tried nearly 4 years ago but was not prepared to throw in the towel! i went to the scottish highland convention at the begining of april and im going to oban the first weekend in may! at the highland convetion in inverness there was an irish chap speaking called george from Colrhaine.he was absolutely marvelous.looking forward to oban! |
Hi Charmain....I know him well!! And he was in Galway too. |
As I have been ill for the last 2 years, I have not been to a convention for a while. I never missed the North West Convention in Blackpool for the first 8 years in my recovery and I have missed the fellowship and the new friends I meet on these occasions. Next year I am determined to attend. There is a convention in Dumfries, Scotland in October and I intend to go this year, with God's Grace. I love waking up in the morning knowing that I will have someone there to talk to who completely understands me. Hopefully I will meet some of the people I have met in this forum. |
A retreat for me in the mountains..different from a convention. Cabins..meetings, workshops, a fire and singing and sharing circle at night..great food. Yes! Oh, just for Women..and women yakking 24/7. :lmao |
sounds great IO ....have a blast |
nelco! what a small world! i think anyone that knows or has met george is priveliged! i was just sharing at a meeting tonite a couple of things he said at inverness,,,,somebody asked him how he got to AA and he said he went straight to hell and took a u turn! lol,,and the other that it is ok for us to cry,we are just having an inside shower.i loved his honesty, humility and humour!:ghug3 |
love conventions when I can go to them.I meet a lot of new friends I had never met before. Hear a lot of good things |
