Went to my first ACA meeting!
Ahhh... it was nice.. just plain nice!
I have my Big Red book! I've changed... unlike past experience. This book speaks to me, like no other book I've read. I'm not in a race to go through it, either. I'm taking baby steps this time!

Oh good, I'm glad you found it positive.
I know what you mean. That is exactly how I felt after having read entire shelves worth of "self-help" books. It's like these people who wrote the book were writing about _my_ life.
* lol * You're doing better than me. When I first started ACA I would read _everything_ cover to cover and _right now_. Patience was not on my list of assets, I wanted to be better immediately.
Congratulations on your first meeting, and on the baby steps
Mike

Hello Jur123, and welcome to our little corner of recovery
This book here:
ACA Fellowship Text
The "Red Book" is the recovery manual for the Adult Children of Alcoholics program. It's rather large for a recovery book, the reason is that they actually merged several manuals into a single volume. That makes it much simpler to use since you don't have to go back and forth between multiple books when you are looking something up or trying to follow different concepts that are related.
You can order the book from the above link or, if there are ACA meetings convenient to you they usually have some for sale.
World Meeting List
Welcome again, I'm glad you decided to join us

Mike- thanks for the reply. It's not patience... the old me? I used to think, I could read a book, and walaa! Work the steps and Walaa! I would be healthy in no time!
This time... I am not so naive.
Jur123,
Welcome! I'll explain more about the book and why I like it.
As Mike said, it contains a lot of information. I'm one of those people, who likes to know the background. I'm one of those people who doesn't get it.. or accept it easily, I like to know and understand why. I like how the book goes in depth into things.
I felt immediately comfortable.. related to what I read.
Welcome! Oh and by the way, just like many of the other things.. If you read the laundry list.... I didn't relate to every one. Now the part where they ask, if you qualify?
I won the gold medal at that olympics!

Glad to hear it! I just recently started going to Al-Anon meetings (ACA are too far away for me sadly). They're awkward, and I feel extremely uncomfortable at times, but it's really helped me step back and examine my life.
