Hi,
I've been going to alanon for about 10 years. Up until this past year- I would only go to mtgs. sporadically. I only went when things got so bad. But this year, I've made the decision to attend 1- 3 times per week. And I have a sponsor.
There aren't any acoa meetings in my area.
I can't seem to break the pattern of isolation.
When I was little, no one talked about the chaos that was going on. So my way of "coping" was to shut down.
Why do I still do that today?
I can share @ meetings but not @ home. How sick is that?
love in alanon,
Laurie

Sounds like you're doing great. There is a phone ACA meeting every day at noon, but I've found that it's pretty intense, yet hard to get personal feedback (because people are conference-calling from all over the world, so it's a little chaotic at times).
There aren't a lot of ACA meetings -- here in RI, there are only 3 or 4 that I know of; fortunately two of them are within a mile of me. It's a much smaller fellowship than Al-Anon. Do you have the ACA big book? You can get it (as well as their workbook, which is great but pretty much requires a sponsor -- it's too intense to do alone, at least for me) directly from them at Welcome to Adult Children of Alcoholics - World Service Organization, Inc..

Thanks
Thank you both for welcoming me to this forum.
I would like to check out the acoa call sometime. No, I don't have that acoa big book yet. Sounds like it would be good to have.
take care,
