The truth comes out

My grandmother is suffering form an eating disorder. She used to tell me to lose weight, etc. For Christmas, she gave me a girdle and diet cookbook. LOL I thought I wasn't thin enough because of her projecting her disorder onto me. I always thought my family was a bit off the wall, but this was very eye opening. Now I wonder what else has been projected onto me as a child. Does anyone else have experience with this?

My grandmother was addicted to prescription medication and had an eating disorder. My mother is an addict/alcoholic and is eating disordered.

I've spent my entire life convinced that I'm fat and ugly because they told me that.

It's common for mothers with eating disorders to be very controlling about their daughters' diets and weight and appearance. It's very common for them to make comments about their daughters' appearance.
