I've been sober for over four years now, and it was around the point you're at when I transitioned from not needing to use to not wanting to use. While all of us will always be addicts who are capable of screwing everything up in a millisecond, there's something quite luminous about the realization that addiction to mind-altering substances is in the rearview mirror.
