Sorry about your loss.
As a medical provider I will tell you that we really don’t know much about addiction. One of the very few positives that came out of my XRAH being an alcoholic and then going to rehab and getting sober is that I am now very well versed in addiction/alcoholism. Previously I would recommend AA and consider rehab. That’s about the extent we learn. Now I get it, I understand the alcoholic patient much better and I can counsel them much better and be much more compassionate. So I am not entirely surprised as the lack of empathy from the doctors. Because they don’t understand what you went through/are still dealing with. Don’t take it personal, it is their lack of knowledge On how addiction really affects families and relationships.
Anyway, I am sorry that you are now having to deal with a lot of unknowns. That should remind all of us, addict or not, that we should get a will etc in order obecause you never know. I am certainly guilty of that.
Wishing you strength and sending you hugs
