When I was a young woman and still in my alcoholic (or just basic young adult) misery, I would have loved to have an older woman befriend me - especially one like you, Gilmer.
I had a lifelong not-that-great relationship with my own mother. She probably could have benefited from a surrogate/occasional daughter that wasn't me, as well.
You are already an encouragement to her.
I think it is going to be great for both of you.
