Leigh, you can pick up a starter telescope reasonably. Learning how, and why, to set it up teaches a lot. Then you can see most of the solar system and some other cool stuff.
I have been thinking about just that, trachs. I have been reading up about the Cassiopeia Constellation - fascinating to me.
