Welcome, Wonder65.

Sounds like you are in a really good position to recover. When I first got sober, age 22, the first thing I thought I needed was a relationship, be responsible, settle down etc. really wrong thinking, but i was lonely, which seems to be a part of this illness. Anyway it lasted only a few weeks and then I was out and found myself on my own in a little bedsit.

It was the best thing that could have happened. No domestic conflict, no restrictions on my time, I could pursue recovery at any time I wanted to, and I made the most of that. In addition, if dinner wasn't cooked, or the bed not made, there was only me to blame. It was very freeing, being able to come and go as I pleased.

For the first few months I did a lot of AA. Not just meetings, but learned how to incorporate the steps into my life. The result was permanent recovery.
