Recovery/sobriety is not something that 'happens' to you, it is something you
make happen. As long as you're waiting for recovery to happen to you, you'll be waiting for a while.
I know some don't like hearing this, but it's my favorite of CarolD's expressions: you have to want to be sober
more than you want to drink. I was constantly relapsing as long as I still wanted to drink more than I wanted to be sober.
