You're right Steve. That scene just gets old.
Getting wasted on New Years when you're 22 and single is, as you said -- 'Meh'.
Doing that when you're 42 and have a family is just kind of sad -- 'Ugh'.
More importantly, my mindset has changed as I've gotten older. Everything doesn't need to be some extreme experience lived to the max. I find a calm but productive day getting things done, ending with a relaxing time with friends/family to be very satisfying. No need to be altering my mind or swinging from a chandelier.

As far as the young bucks bragging about how slammed they got over the holidays, I had a moment of perspective about that a couple of years ago prior to quitting. I went out after work on a Friday night with some young guys from work who were known as hard partiers (just booze, no drugs). It didn't take me long to realize that their idea of getting "slammed" was what an alcoholic like me called "Wednesday afternoon"
