When I got sober and had been to a few AA meetings, I spoke to the woman who spoke at a meeting I attended, thanking her for what she'd said. We chatted for a while before she said, "I'll be happy to talk to you again if I run into you two or three months from now, but not if you're still complaining about the same things you're complaining about now."

Disappointment, suffering and struggling to get to a better place are all part of what it is to be human. Maybe even the better part of what it is to be human. But the comment I took from your post is a universal truth for everyone who lives in misery.

There is no single "right" way to get sober anymore than there is one "right" way to live a good life, but there are plenty of "wrong" ways to go about doing both.
