I've never encountered him, and would probably only say "hello." He's a private and somewhat cantankerous person when he's out and about. Doesn't like people approaching him. I know a couple of people who see him all the time in the part of CA he lives in. He pulled over to the side of the road for a friend of mine once, to let him go around. Guess he thought he was driving too slow.
I've also had conversations with his old sax player. Nice guy.
