Today I took my elderly parents to my niece's high school graduation. I was able to relax and enjoy the day and be there for my family. We had hours of driving in traffic, and hours sitting in the hot sun listening to overly-long commencement speeches. When I was a drinker, I probably would have been hungover for the whole thing, and these minor annoyances would have made me very irritable. Instead, today was easy and filled with gratitude, because I was sober.
