For me, acknowledging that I couldn't drink safely was a turning point. I became willing to do whatever it took NOT to drink.
For me, AA was a place to go where drinking was not an option. What folks said there didn't make a whole lot of sense to me, but they understood my demons, that addictive voice telling me I should drink, and their companionship was a comfort. Eventually what they said made sense - and helps keep me sober.
