Thanks for the sympathy for my frustrations with the mixer. It is most certainly a first world problem, me whining about my fancy, overpriced mixer, but I was so disappointed. Seems it may be a coating used to polish the bowls and I may be able to scrub it off with, of all things, Bar Keepers Friend. It is a polish for stainless steel.
